Pathways to Diversity and Inclusion Fund Criteria
- Requested funds must contribute to creating an inclusive environment for undergraduate, graduate, and/or medical students at Brown through creative programming and opportunities.
- Requests should be student-centered and must enhance the experiences of students.
- Requested funds must be used during the academic year in which they were requested.
- Requests can be made by registered student organizations*, and academic and administrative departments, centers, and institutes.
- A Pathways Report Form is required for all funded projects within two weeks of the event date. This should include a written narrative as well as any media (photos, video, audio, etc.) that describe the project and its impact on the student experience.
- Prior recipients of Pathways Funds are not eligible for consideration of additional funding until a Pathways Report Form is completed.
- All Pathways funds must be returned to the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity if the programming or opportunity for which funds are requested is canceled or postponed to another academic year.
* Any UCS and GSC recognized student organizations seeking Pathways to Diversity and Inclusion funds, should have prior approval for their event, or be approved pending funding, through Campus Life.
Funding
Funding is available for:
- Academic and Administrative Departments, Centers, and Institutes that provide support, resources, and mentorship for students from diverse communities.
- Spaces that nurture a community for students to discuss all subjects related to a sense of belonging, through programming and community events.
- Student-centered programming that falls within one of five categories: Community-Building, Critical Discourse, Skill-Building, Mentorship, Professional Development.
Pathways Awards
Pathways to Diversity and Inclusion Funds will be granted with the following maximal allowances*
Applicant Type | Award Maximum (per semester) |
Recognized Student Organizations | $3000 |
Academic or Administrative Units | $5000 |
*Academic and administrative departments, centers or institutes requesting funding for initiatives related to the DIAP should apply using the DIAP Fund application.

Applying to the Pathways to Diversity and Inclusion Fund
The Application
The application includes:
- A description of the proposed program or initiative
- A proposed budget, including any other funding sources
- A description of program or initiative outcomes
- A description of a proposed process for evaluating outcomes
Application Review Criteria
All applications will be reviewed based on the following criteria:
1. Alignment with Belonging and Inclusion Goals
- How well does the proposed project address the goals of promoting belonging, inclusion, and diversity?
2. Impact Potential
- What is the potential of the project to make a meaningful, measurable difference in the university community?
- Will it reach a significant number of students or have a deep impact on a smaller group?
3. Feasibility and Sustainability
- Is the project realistically achievable within the proposed timeline and budget?
- Are the plans and resources clearly defined and adequate?
4. Innovation and Creativity
- Does the project propose unique, innovative approaches to fostering inclusion?
- Does it bring fresh ideas that are likely to engage students in new ways?
