OIED stewards the University’s commitment and responsibility to foster equitable and inclusive working and learning environments through continued partnerships with other departments and collaborations with individuals across the University.
Our office leads a range of initiatives, including but not limited to:
Stewarding Action Plans
- Stewarding the University’s Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP)
- Managing Brown’s Affirmative Action Plan (for employment), including compliance monitoring and government reporting
- Supporting the activities of the Diversity and Inclusion Oversight Board and the President’s Advisory Council on Diversity
Sustaining a Diverse Community
- Supporting recruitment of a diverse faculty and staff by providing training and assistance to search committees.
Supporting a Strong Campus Climate
- Regularly surveying the community regarding campus climate
- Providing assessment, education and training, including on actions to address bias and to assess and strengthen campus climate
- Providing resources to members of the community who experience bias
- Developing educational and support resources in line with the initiatives above
- Hosting and supporting events that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Overseeing and supporting Employee Affinity Groups
Building Pipelines
- Serving as the home for the Leadership Alliance, the Brown-Tougaloo Partnership and other programming and initiatives to build strong pipelines of talent in the academy.
