Boards, Councils and Task Forces

The Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity provides strategic guidance, support and collaboration across the campus community through its work with boards, councils and task forces that are committed to advancing academic excellence, equal opportunity and inclusion for students, faculty and staff.

The Advisory Council on Diversity considers long-term policy and planning, strategic directions, and efficacy of implementation concerning issues of diversity. The Council reviews programs and practices that promote diversity, inclusion, and fair treatment of all members of the University community and consists of ex-officio members from other relevant councils. The council is made up of up at least 15 members who are appointed by the President for staggered terms of three years each, beginning July 1 and ending June 30. The chair is designated biennially by the President.

The Advisory Council on Relations with Tougaloo College is the principal governing body for the Brown-Tougaloo Partnership. The Council considers long-term policy and planning, strategic direction and efficacy of implementation to steward and advance the relationship between Brown University and Tougaloo College. The Council is primarily made up of up of alumni from Brown, Tougaloo and the Brown-Tougaloo Partnership, who are appointed by the President of Brown University.

The Diversity and Inclusion Oversight Board (DIOB) serves to strengthen and streamline oversight of diversity and inclusion initiatives across Brown’s campus. The DIOB assesses progress related to goals set forth in the university-wide Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) by meeting regularly, inviting senior leaders to DIOB meetings, reviewing data and metrics related to DEI, and annually authoring a memo to the president and provost highlighting key areas that require the University’s close attention as it pertains to DIAP initiatives.
